Art for Mind & Body

This series of artwork is entitled, Ethereal Environments.

I described the style and philosophy of this series in Volume 28 of Studio Visit  catalog;

Meditation and spirituality counterbalance our high-tech lives. My artwork encourages introspection and cleansing opportunities. It conveys wonder. The bold blended colors and ethereal light create serene environments for tranquility and transformation. My limited palette of colors and glazing tells heartfelt stories beyond consciousness...and is respite for the weary.

Abstract Landscapes, Meditative, peaceful, bold, colorful

Yelllow Trees

24 x 36 oil on canvas

Red Tree

24 x 36 oil on canvas

Blue Pines

24 x 36 oil on canvas

This triptych (set of three) expresses an environmental place with one of the three primary colors dominate in each setting. The landscape flows from panel to panel, with tree forms providing the subject focus, tying together as a whole. Much of the time, I paint in sets of three, with the opportinity to sell as single pieces or as the set.

Peaceful magical ethereal landscape

Imagine an island...a peaceful place for contemplation. While the world nearby may be harsh and unforgiving, this small plot of earth is bathed in eternal light. Beauty surrounds and love endures. In the Broadway play, The Secret Garden, one song speaks of "a little bit of earth" and its value. We all look for a place to escape pain and troubles, like an island to relax mind and body.

Island of Light

36 x 48 oil on canvas

Landscape mountains, autumn, geometric

Geometrix

30 x 40 oil on canvas

A crystalized mountain pass as the background and a geometric waterfall in the foreground provide the setting for the natural landscape of trees. Geometry is a framework representing the natural world on an atomic scale. Realism and abstraction are complementary, giving the viewer a chance to explore beyond the forest and trees.

Art for a Residential Setting

autumn trees, abstract landscape bold color

With light we see reality, like a grove of trees or hills in the distance. Low light or lack of light  will turn object gray and even fade to black. What's real...what's illusion? Sunlight affects our eyes which tells our brains what the object is and what coloration exists. Light reflection increases the variety of colors based on adjacencies and intensities.

The geometries in this painting create enchantments and questions. Is the pool reflected light, real or the source of light? Is the landscape a place of tranquilty or eruption?

Abstractions lead to questions. Those questions are answered through observations and interpretation of the mind's eye.

The Rock, Paul, Jesus, Christ, landscape art

The Rock

24 x 30 oil on canvas

I am an avid gardener and lover of nature.

The conifers depicted in the natural setting are actually based on bonsai, the art of sustaining minature trees. The composition of rocks, moss, gravel and certain varieties of trees provides a wonderful paintable subject, when imagined in a larger size. The enhancements of light and color excentuate the beauty and this place of contemplation.

Art should be a part of everyones life.

Bold Color landscape painting, Gold, peace

GOLD dominates this scene emphasizing its valued place in civilization. It pours out of the hills

into streams and forests, awaiting discovery...Awaiting refinement into bars, coins and jewelry.

This series of art starts with many quick thumbnail sketches, testing composition, values and colors. The environment develops as color and light blend, and shapes become distinct.

GOLD

30 x 40 oil on canvas

Painting senery, ethereal landscape, transformation

This piece is featured in the winter volume of Studios Visit catelog 2014-2015.

Glazing is an important aspect of my technique. Glazing creates a thin layer of color, built layer by layer creating transparency that enhances the luminosity of the art. This Old World discipline is not common in the art world today. The rock outcropping is the focal point and is bathed in glazes of Indian Yellow and Alizarian Crimson. Viridian Green subdues and highlight the surrounding environment.

Autumn Lights

24 x 30 oil on canvas

Bold colors, Landscape, abstract, lights, tranquility

My palette consists of five colors plus white. Mixing a few colors multiplies the range to millions. Our eyes have great abilities to see bold color and percieve subtle differences. The composition directs the viewer to the hot spot beyond the red-orange tree. There, a mystery of light creates intensity above and throughout the scene. Water enhances the lights, but in shades of blue and green, which cools the warmth above.

Sky Lights

24 x 30 oil on canvas

Shadows, Trees, Light, abstract

Cast shadows create an intriguing composition of silhouetted trees, sparse of color as dawn breaks. There is movement on the ground, dancing light and color add energy from the sun to the awakening earth.

The painting in this series captures environments generated through a process of creative thinking, design doodling and color studies in watercolor and color pencil. Below is an example of artwork depicting a seqeunce in the evolution of my process.

The examples above are a small part of the work completed. New work will be posted on my blog and updated regularly.

The artwork depicted in this series is one-of-a-kind mind generated original art.
